It would be interesting to know what kind of lives people on this forum live, so I thought we could start with jobs :flowers:

Me? Well, I work at a media design company, which is pretty cool since it's my first job. It's supposed to be part time, but I still get calls from clients at school asking me to finish their websites for them :angrylooking: Also, coincidently the place I work is also a recording studio, so I can do free recording with my guitar :D

(If this question is too personal there's no pressure in you answering :))

I have done freelance graphic/web design before. But I'm taking my GCSE's this year, and haven't had a real job before, so I don't get up to much nowadays. Having a girlfriend takes up the most of my free time :S

I'm a full time Flash Developer, but do Flash/Web dev and design on the side as well. I get to work on some funky projects (not all Flash websites, but some neat applications) for some big companies like Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz.

I'm a freelance web developer & designer, moving on to full time next week though as I have found an awesome company that want me.

Not going to say how much I earn but its enough to fund me and all the crazy shit I do.

Hmm...well...that's kinda a loaded question b/c a comfortable life for you might not be the same as me :) For me a comfortable life is being able to pay the bills and get a few of the extras. Currently that's possible, but that's also b/c my wife works. When she stops things are going to get a lot tighter. If I had the guts to go freelance full-time and brought in the work, yeah...it could be real comfortable. As it stands right now I work for a company that doesn't believe in paying their workers a competitive wage. Don't get me wrong...they say it's competitive...but I think they mean competitive to a Dairy Queen job or something. Okay...I make a little more than that :)

What was the question again? Oh yeah...um...I think that generally speaking...yes...if you find a good company to work for a comfortable living is pretty easy. Were I not married (don't show my wife this!) the income would be plenty.

I just dropped out of college b/c of money reasons, so I'd figured that I could do some freelance work and make enough to pay bills and get other things. How hard is it to find freelance work without a college degree. I do expect to go back sometime in the future, when money gets better, but how hard is it to find freelance web dev work w/o a college degree?

I don't know, I have a degree...but in all the work I've done I've never had a single person ASK if I had a degree. They just look at what I can do and if they like it and the price is right they go with it. I tell people all the time (especially in fields like this) that we're at the point where experience holds just as much weight as a degree, but that's just my opinion.

I would like to be a freelancer, but my city really doesn't have anyone who really needs a website LOL. I hate living in Raleigh :).
