If I had only learned one thing from web design its that IE SUCKS. I want to go and scream it from a moutain top and let the whole world know. However.... this forum was a lot closer. How many of you use Ie for a default browser and why? As far as I can tell there are no advantages to firefox. Any input?

A lot of the people that use IE just don't realise there are other browsers out there.

Man, IE6 isn't the lowest, IE 5.5 is about 40% used at the CNET sites. THAT is what gets me annoyed. They don't even know the one browser that they use can be updated.

I am not a lazy coder thanks, it is proven that FF will show pages better. I can copy code from this book I have been learning from and it is different in Ie.

IE also has problems supporting PNG's properly, Besides the obvious transparency issue. They also have different shades of colors than properly displayed png's in firefox/safari/opera.

Books are scrapping written and always outdated...that doesn't surprise me.

There are differences between IE and Firefox (and every other browser), but, and I agree with this because I've seen it in my own coding, if you code to a certain level of conformity you should not be having any issues with IE outside the odd margin/padding differences.

Disagree if you will but it's what most people will say and it's something I have found to be true myself so I can't.

I have IE7 set as default, why do I use it? becuase it loads faster for me and I get tired of Firefox timing out or telling me it cannot connect to sites, it's one of the slowest browsers I've ever used and only use it now for sitechecks.

I also use Opera, and IE6

If your serious about web design you should be coding so it's compatable with all browsers.

IE7 is fine. IE6 was a nightmare to code, but you should still code your websites to work in FF, IE7 and IE6 as they are the 3 main browsers. Opera is good, but not that much used. If your website works in FF, then its probably going to works in Opera as well so that's not a problem.

I use Firefox though, simply because of the extensions, no other browser offer that. (yes IE and Opera have extensions but none worth installing yet)

:angrylooking:

You're kidding right?
IE6/7 is the SLOWEST internet I've ever used. Firefox never times out for me and starts up, and loads pages, much much faster than IE. I've converted my entire family into Firefox users because they've seen the proof.

Oh and Stu have a look at www.toxicfire.net
View it in FF and IE. Which one is better? -_-

Well I use Maxthon 2 browser, as for me IE and FF are both slower than Maxthon...
But if it becomes to the choise of browser and updates: average user is happy to use what he/she has been given and sees no need to change the way, cause it works.... He'll/she'll think on changing and/or updating if the broswer stops functioning. They mostly don't even know the alternatives for IE :angrylooking:

And well to be honest, mostly the average user can't even tell if something is wrong with the computer... For example if I go from my PC on my bro's, it feels like going from dual core pentium to using pentium 1, although his compter has better specs... And he is not complaing, as far as all the games run it is ok for him, lol....
