right im having a problem with signing into live messenger and hotmail. it works fine with webmessenger.msn.com and also with the old windows messenger. i have been around to all the support forums, looked at loads of potential solutions, but none have worked.
so i was just wondering - have any of you ever had a block on the isp's entire ip block from msn/live? maybe someone was sending spam from the same ip block or something i dont know... this is the only thing i can think of.
and if you have, how did you fix it? do i need to call my isp and ask them to move me to another one? am i talking out of my arse?
help is most appreciated!

Have you tried the connection trouble shooter? asking because you haven't really stated what you have tried yet.

Only other thing that comes to mind is to check your router (web login) settings and make sure Live Messenger is allowed, also check your firewall settings as you may of accidently blocked it.

yeh ive had a look through my router settings and firewall settings and nothing appears to be wrong. the thing is i did not change anything (im the only one with access to the router settings), this just happened completely out of the blue.

that is called messenger and the pain in the *ss login...
Basicly msn is a big suck program and it sometimes doesn't work...
Try again in 24h and maybe it works back again, something else you really cant do and ill guess they are "updating" your account...
Every month they take 1/25 of there accounts down to update them... and this mostly doesn't take longer then 24h

Have you tried completely removing and reinstalling or read through http://messenger-sup...paces.live.com/ ? Be more helpful is you say what you've tried doing.

thanks for the suggestions adam, but my account isnt locked and i have tried step two but its not working, with and without the new msn. btw this isnt just my computer, it is all the computers in my house.
donna - like ive said twice, ive tried nearly everything i have read from the support forums, im not going to list it all out here cus ill be here all day. but thats irrelevant anyways cus while im open to suggestions on what the problem may be (like adam kindly did), im pretty sure i have singled it down to one or two things, hence the reason my actual question was the following:
im not even sure if the above is possible or not, thats why im trying to find out if anyone knows a bit more about it. i have had a reply from messnger support asking me to send them some logs, so ill give that a go later tonight and post back here.

You might want to try to use OpenDNS instead of your ISP DNS.
http://www.opendns.com/
Your ISP might have problems resolving the MSN server that does the logins. Which would explain why you can login on webmessenger but not from your computer. Just a guess but you might to try...

got it in the end, like i thought it was a problem with open ports on my router, so after trying 7 or 8 different ones i finally can log in again.
for future reference for anyone experiencing the same problems, try opening port 1863 on your router.
