I have found several tutorials on how to turn a round object into a cube however I cannot manage to use these techniques on a shape that is long and thin.

I want to create a cube shape from this http://www.sxc.hu/photo/395779 whilst trying to maintain realism. Does anyone know of any tutorials I can view to help me with a shape such as this? I promised my mum I would do it for her, I managed to make an apple a cube but she wants this instead

If you're using Illustrator, the option of Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object can be used possibly. I use this technique with distorting text to take on a shape, so I don't see why it can't be used with shapes as well. Check out my tutorial at Distort Text.

http://www.13dots.co...showtopic=14081 if you follow that you should be able to cube any shape fruit as I've also seen it done in weird shaped fruit.
