Here is a piece I did as I as bored at work. All with a pen then I scanned it in and added a few photoshop effects .. forst turned it into a desaturated image, then posterized it and changed the layer opacity and stuff..
so here it is.

very tough to make out what the design is? pretty unclear..

but yes I agree it is a mess.. but there is lots in there.
