PS7 Color Problem!!!!

Well, I have been playing around with some things and now the colors in photoshop 7 are all wierd. When I paint a color, the color turns out grey or a more pale color. Is there any way to set all the settings to default? I REALLY NEED HELP! I am a gfx helper at some other forums and I can't make signatures with this strange color problem. Please help. Thanks.

Make sure your image is set to RGB... and not grey scale.
Or.. whilst your on your image, hold CTRL and press Y

It didn't. I still get a strange clear pastel look to all my color.
