My computer came with vista, and I just got tired of that, so I decided to put XP on it instead. My computer is a HP dv9208nr, and when I initially installed XP, absolutely nothing worked, no drivers or anything. So I went to the HP website and downloaded all of the drivers I needed. Now everything works except there is a small problem with USB. Transferring files to/from ipod or any other usb device is incredibly slow. When I plug in a USB device, I get this error message...

Attached File  untitled.PNG   15.51K   75 downloads

I'm not sure what to do, and I've looked all over the place. If anyone has encountered this before and can help me, I would be very appreciated.

Did you install Service Pack 2?
If not go to MS and download and install SP2 as that has the stuff you need for USB 2.

Yes, I was hoping that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Also, after SP2 installed I went to device manager and uninstalled the driver, then MS automatically searched and installed it, but it is still doing the same thing.

What was actually the problem with Vista? I would of thought if it came with Vista it would be built for that OS better.
Maybe put Vista back on and I know there is something on P2L to remove the annoying things in Vista that many do not like.
Worth a shot ah.

Sorry the SP2 thing never worked.

I actually think the performance is much better with XP, aside from the usb problem. I can live with that if I don't have to live with all the things vista does.

Hrmm.. without thinking about your OS it looks like your computer only has USB 1.0 ports.. but I assume any computer which had vista on it should be all 2.0 =\

I was feeling good about that Donna, but when I tried to install it said it was only for SP1, and I'm on SP2.

strange as it even states for SP1 and SP2, only other thing I can think of is to run a scan of your system using Microsoft's Windows Update double check that you have all the needed patches, then try again.

AH! I kinda feel dumb now. I went back into Device Manager and realized that there were 2 occurances of USB. I had overlooked the problem USB device. I uninstalled both drivers then plugged in a USB device and Windows automatically downloaded the newest drivers for the USB. So its working at 2.0 full speed now.

Thanks for the help :o
