Why is it so slow?

Anyway, it looks alright...just super slow and kind of boring.
I would add something to the bottom, another color...where your copyright is. It always bugs me to see a website that's copyright background is the same color as the background of the site.

I think it is too basic. Too late '90s. Websites these days are about the content but people first look at design (at least I do first) because I want something attractive.

I just bought the domain name, so it needs some time to resolve. It should be loading ok by tomorrow or the next day. Are the colors good?

I don't really like the colors. All of your designs have a very plain, boring look to them.
Just try spicing things up with some images and stuff.

Thing is, I've tried adding images, but my images SUCK. No matter how hard I hard to get them to look good, they turn out bad...

Well, it looks alright. The thing is though, if you want to design website - you either have to be able to make images, or have some one that you can count on, and split the job up with them. You designing & them doing graphics.
If you can't do one of those, then you should practice/find some one BEFORE you make a portfolio, or do too much designing.
Also, I would suggest maybe trying to add some more color to it.

2 things, why would you need to log peoples IPs? Make the center blue more of a grey-blue color maybe?

The job I'm applying for just wanted to see if I knew any PHP, so I just said why not.

I'm redoing the layout. It's going to be clean (white bg) and I'm going to try to make some graphics for it...
