Well ive got my hands on a copy of maya 8.5 as i want to get into modeling as its something im looking into doing at uni, and ive been looking round the net but was wondering does anyone have any links on tutorials that are useful or any tips for me to begin learning how to model with this program.

Thanks for all replies in advance.

With any new software I buy I normally spend the first day or 2 just playing. Play with all the features and options and see what they do. Mix things up and see what happens.
I find I learn a program faster by playing and making a ton and a half mistakes.

But if you have a look at http://www.3dbuzz.com you might find what you want.

The reason I listed 3dBuzz is because they are videos there. Easier to learn from.

yeah tutorials for maya are a little harder to find then the 3Ds max one.... but all in all I like maya more... great help for me on getting started was first buying a good book on maya... the one I looked at that is not bad is named "Maya 8 : the complete reference" alot of things in it to help you.... also a good thing to help you and also encourage you to get better in modeling is learn how to render and use materials properly... when I first started I hated it fast because when I would render it would look very ugly... but then when I finally learn't how to render properly it got my hopes up alot more....

in fact... I might just write up a simple tutorial today on how to acheive a good render work flow... when I do I'll give message you alright?
