Well all in all its not been the perfect weekend for british sport, didn't win the rugby world cup and didn't get the world championship for Lewis Hamilton with the Formula 1.

It is such a big shame, but there are positives from it all, both team and person did so much better then what was expected from them when they started.

Both did suffer very unlucky things but if its not meant to be then oh well.

All i can say is, bring on the new season of F1 and bring on the next world cup!

dont forget being very likely to be left at home for the european championships either!

by the way, not sure id say british sport, as im not sure the scots welsh and irish really give a stuff if we had won, on the contrary they were probably chuffed to bits being the bitter lot they are.

proud of the rugby team though, they really did defend that cup with everything they had after a slow start. south africa are worthy champions on form over the last 4 years but you still cant help but feel gutted in the manner we lost though. thatll teach the irb to put french irish and aussie officials in charge of an england game! cheated.

If you actually look at the really slow motion version of it, you will notice that his foot does actually touch the line for a split second, so in terms of the try not being given, as much as it does pain me, it was the correct decision given there.

The performance thou we gave wasn't good enough, gave away some silly penalties, and yes South Africa are worthy champions, played a great game, and been a good world cup.

cant comment on rugby (too bad i really like bashing judges for bad decisions  )

but i can comment on the euro 2008 qualifications, we, the croats were counting on england to win against russia cuz that would brought us a clear path to the euro, now we need to get at least one point in the upcoming matches (macedonia&england) i think we can beat the macedonians but if we dont its gonna be a tough battle at wembley...

i love soccer!

Matt
i cant say i saw anything to indicate he touched the line. i watched it on a screen the size of my house and saw it from every different angle possible and honestly thought he never touched it. in any case, it was such a close call that unless the video ref was 100% sure he touched the line then it was a try. in that situation there is no possible way anyone could be 100% sure that decision was correct, therefore it was a try. my only guess is that yourself, my sister and the video ref must have had a different angle to watch from myself and the rest of the 400 people at our local rugby club. ill accept the decision as fair when i find some footage that shows his foot was out, till then ill stick to my guns and say cheated.

with regards to the silly penalties, two of there 5 penalties came from non-existant instances of crossing, whilst the ref conveniently ignored the most blatant, text book example of crossing by the saffers i have ever seen.

a few different (or correct) calls from the ref (regardless of whether it was a try or not) and we could very well have won that game. those 4 decisions changed the match as without the points on the board the saffers couldnt have relied on kicking for territory as much and could have left us within a penalty and drop goal of winning the thing.

but anyways... coulda, shoulda, woulda, its too late now.

Watch at 1 min 12 seconds and you see his foot touches the line, only just touches it, but its enough for the try not to be given

in that case it would have been a try.

in rugby if the ball or ball carrier touch the line/go over the line then it is out of play.

i would love to see someone like sky do one of these 3d panoramas for it like they did for liverpools CL semi final goal against chelsea. with the liverpool chelsea one they had less camera angles and an obstructed view by the uprights so it was harder to be accurate, whereas with the try its all there to see... although not 100% accurate maybe that would shed some light as to the validity of the try.

Gutted about the euro, i cant see us being there next year now, its all over, bye bye steve mc clown and your half assed tatics, hello brave new world were we all get up in arms again only to be let down by pillocks.

we should have beaten Russia, and beaten them easy just another poor team perfomance, remove the superstars for a few games, and make them earn there place back, that will bring them back to earth, they think there so good, they think there world beaters, in reality, there shite.

British sport is a rather odd thing you know. As soon as something gets hyped up within the sport, the pressure just gets to the sportsmen and they fail to deliver. Lewis Hamilton started to choke when the pressure was on him despite having an excellent first season. The rugby team did well once the pressure was off when they had lost 36-0 to South Africa. As soon as they beat Australia and France, the pressure got to them in the finals thus making them give away too many points. The football team has been a flop ever since Sven left. As soon as the pressure of qualifying came to the players, they failed to deliver. I somewhat doubt England will beat Croatia, who have been playing really well. I also doubt Israel will beat or draw with Russia. I do feel however, that the plastic pitch in Moscow made a difference.
