But just before i took the plunge and bought it, i wondered if anyone has any gripes or negatives about it?

Negatives that i have found: for a man with little bigger hand than usual, this camera can be a little bit too small.
The hand grip cpuld be more rubber, at the moment it is too plastic.

Nothing more to say by me, but I only have had this cam fo 2 weeks now :)

I think itīs an excellent dslr for new photographers! - The glass is more important than the house, at least thats my point of view.

About the size - Yeah itīs not that big - but a camera like Nikon D40X which is in the same pricerange -is even smaller - so just live with it  - A negative thing about 400d is the quality of the standard-kit (18-55mm) and the feeling of holding a toy-camera. - I bought a Sigma 17-70mm 1:2.8-4.5 lens to replace the kit. Itīs a lovely (value for money!) all-round objective and because of itīs size - the whole camera feel bigger - and better:p

Anyways - itīs cool - and got at good pricetag - go buy;)
