I (honestly) wouldn't start with w3schools tutorials, I find them to be well... dull. They're quite hard to understand if you're just beginning also. The way I first started learning HTML is through trial and error.
I was always more of a hands-on learner, not too big on the reading. If you're anything like me you'll find that scanning through tutorials and finding out how things work on your own is
a lot more rewarding than reading through blocks of text and playing with the occasional example.
Although when you get more professional in web design, it becomes less useful, try and find a WYSIWYG editor like
Dreamweaver and use their tools to design websites. As you begin to get more advanced, start looking at the source code, and learn what it all means. Then take a step up and only use code, no tools.
Might not be the way you like to learn, but it's how I got started.
