Hey guys! (And gals of course :))

Little idea I have thought about. It's just a little touch I wouldn't mind seeing on the Forums here, obviously if everyone else thinks its a complete waste of a feature, thats fine with me and we can just carry on with our discussions! :D

So basically, I was thinking this:

Idea 1
YouTubes "Good Comment" and "Bad Comment" Feature

We have all seen it and most of us, used it. The Thumbs up/down tool on YouTubes video pages. If you have no idea what I mean, then heres a little snippet of the tool:

Basically, if you agree to a comment you hit the thumbs up and it will add a "+1" to the comment. Obviously.. if a lot of people like it, it will go to "+19" etc. And if you don't agree to the comment, you guessed it, you click the thumbs down icon, deducting 1 from the overall number. If it's at 0 it will go to -1.. You get the point!

I was basically thinking of those types of icons to be added to each post thats posted in the forums, then if a user agrees with another user they can hit the thumbs up icon and vice versa. I think this could be a very useful feature in the tutorial section because I don't know about you, but when i look at the YouTube comments, I usually get more attracted to the comments with the +'s next to their comments because I know they're gonna be good comments.

On YouTube, if a comment gets a few negative 0 votes, they get sunk and dont appear, I don't want that to happen. But obviously, people can see it and see if they disagree to the post as well.

You kinda get the gist of it! :P

Idea 2
Yahoo Answers Question Answered :P

Okay guys, this one I particularly would LOVE to see on this Forum as I think it fits in almost, nearly PERFECTLY! .. So here goes my next pitch... :P

I use Yahoo answers from time to time after I've thoroughly searched Google for a few minutes.. And they have an awesome little feature for members who ask questions... Basically.. I ask a question like... "How long is a piece of string?" And a few people answer, but it's not the answer Im looking for so, I wait a while and then another user will post there answer "Fold it in half, measure it, times it by 2" If i like the answer, I will hit the icon next to their post "Best Answer chosen by Asker"

Then, the person who answered the question gets a higher rating percentage and more points, now I've only answered 3 or 4 questions and asked 1, so mine isn't all that great:

Obviously the profile thing isn't 100% needed, but I think the "Best Answer" part would be a must have.

I personally think these features would make the tutorial requests and how to questions a lot better to answer, especially with the thumbs up part and "Best Answer"...

Thats basically it... What do you guys think?

Regards.

Tom :)

Pretty sure I've seen the thumbs up/down incorporated on forums and well they use that kinda thing on digg to bury comments. Adam may have seen this I can't recall if it's IPB or VB that uses it.

Dan is the only one that can give the ok on these, your 2nd idea is great as a lot of replies are very misleading, not helpful and just plainly wrong answers to what's actually being asked.

A good point there.

Well, it doesn't have to be a final agreement that 1 post solved the problem, could probably have... "This post was helpful" or something... Like a voting system if ya like.. I suppose like other users can rank an answer if you know what I mean.

But there's probably a lot of thought to go with it!

Just a question about option two, would the poster be the only one allowed to select the post that has the best answer? (If anyone could do it, they could just spam it)

Also for the best answer thing, if there was more than one post it would say:

Best Answers - S0LDIER., . Adam ., Donna
Also Helpful - dEcade

or something like that.

Yeah!

Just the question asker can select the best answer. Because as you said, they would just result to spam and people just saying their answer is the best!
