I am not a fan or user of Facebook or Myspace, but this is down right a complete a total rip, in my opinion. I know that they are owned by the same company BUT they don't combine them for some odd force that pushes the two sites away. Facebook's development platform was something that grew to be popular, people pay a lot of money for Facebook apps. Will Myspace be as successful as Facebook was? I don't think so, it is just another move to make the two sites come into one, but they never will.

What do you think? Will this be successful? or Will it flood the internet with people who can write "Myspace Code" and are looking for a job?

Why would they be aiming to combine facebook and myspace? That would make internet history as one of the most stupid business moves ever...

Facebook had it, bebo now has it and now apparently myspace does - opens up the sites to development by us moobs and generally makes the sites better as far as I'm concerned.

Also, "rip", really? Think again...

i dont often disagree with what you post... but facebook apps are the most annoying things ever to grace the web (ok, slight exageration but you get the point). dont any other facebook users get royally fucked off with the constant bombardment of "come be a zombie with me" and "XXXXX has written on your super-duper-twatting wall" notifications? or viewing someones page who has every single fecking app under the sun installed hence making your scrollbar move the speed of a skoda?

they might be big business for facebook, but in short, for the average user theyre useless, crap and unbelievably annoying.

the only exception to this has to be texas hold 'em

That's true I suppose stu, I'll add to the list the whole "invite" emails thing but most apps now use the right side column to show invites instead of the emails which is nice.

I was glossing over the little annoyances that do come with the applications when I posted that, ones like the compare me app, superpoke, circle of friends, top friends, free gifts etc are really nice I think and I imagine I wouldn't still be using facebook if they hadn't come out with the applications around the time I and others were getting bored of it, which is partly why I'm so fond of them.

Superwall & funwall have to go, I have refused to add them and most are removing them now (within my contacts anyway).

MySpace is the 6th most popular site on the web and FaceBook 7th, doesn't really matter as both are already proven sucesses whether we like it or not.

Matthew. please stop spamming your blog

lol had to come eventually  thought I was pushing my lucky sorry.

Anyway, something I just thought of - where are these applications going to go? I mean myspace is a pretty messed up site as far as layout profiles go, everyones have different styles to it so they can't really just add them in. Maybe something you add into the content areas (like the "<Z>") to show where you want them?

Btw: Anyone who wants to apply to develop with the platform can use this page: http://developer.myspace.com/Modules/Apps/...DevSandbox.aspx

I have just to see what it's like really.

im not into this who myspace/bebo thing but facebook really was/is great and ill defend it till i die! it gets annoying when people try to arrange nights out on your wall (hi sms?) and the like, but looking beyond that and at its real purpose - the amount of old freinds who i lose contact with and have now spoken to through facebook is amazing.

The reason why they suck is because I constantly get bombarded with emails from all saying like so and so wants to be your friend or so and so has a request or some shit like that. Most of the time I don't know the people, and I don't even have accounts at any of these places.

Also, I find it quite stupid that people have these accounts. Who's going to want to read someones daily life stories? It'd be better if these things were turned into something to promote your businesses or bands, but they don't focus around it (except for maybe myspace with bands).

I don't use FaceBook - I don't really understand it all.. Everyones profile looks the same to me. I love myspace for its customization http://www.myspace.com/voodoodoll__ thats mine, just a load of Divs, completely customized.

I guess im just a sucker for eye candy :P

As for the whole, long lost friends thing, I've started going out with around 10 people I lost contact with in school 5 years ago. I guess MySpace & FaceBook is just a free version of Friends Reunited! :P

I have no quarrel with either sites, bebo, friendster, hi5, facebook, myspace - in my eyes... they all serve a different purpose to the other and no matter how much you, or i or anyone else hates them, you have been on their sites and they're making millions of bucks, while you're kicking back hating them :P

All-in-all.. MySpace is my favorite :) I don't completely get the developer tools, but i've applied for it.. soo.. lol

If you have ever used Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, Gmail, MSN, Live.com, or Comcast then that's how they find you on Facebook as they already have you in their contact emails.

FB is used by 1,000's of well known Companys as well and bands etc web designers also use it and I've seen tutorial sites that submit tuts here also use it. And the marketplace is booming.

It's not they just have shares.

In September 2007, Microsoft approached Facebook, proposing an investment in return for a 5% stake in the company. Microsoft would pay an estimated 300 to 500 million dollars for the share. Other companies such as Google had also expressed interest in buying a portion of Facebook. On October 24, 2007, Microsoft announced that it had bought a 1.6% share of Facebook for $246 million. source: wikipedia
