Well, it seems the UK is finally doing something about me and millions of others, downloading copyrighted material!

Glad I'm not a pirate :)

Any thoughts guys?

it's such a heated topic, you know?

on one hand, there are artists throwing their music out there for all to hear and enjoy and download to their heart's content... they're just thrilled that they're getting exposure and building a fan-base. what a perfect way to gather an audience for a gig!

on the other, there are artists who are signed to the bigger (and some smaller) labels who work under a contract, and if they don't sell X number of cds in a given time frame, or sell enough seats in a concert venue, they get the axe.

i'm torn. i think it should be up to the artist, and i'm surprised that the rules are stricter. i'm not a pirate, myself. i tend to always do what i can to support the artist and hope that their company doesn't give them the runaround (or steal their pennies). but if it's what the artist wants, then what the heck? go for it.

You really need to put yourself in the situation of the artists or film makers... do you really want people ripping off your work for nothing, after all the hard effort and money you spent into making it?

Hypocritically speaking (lol), I'm glad they're considering it - drastic problems call for drastic measures :)

Thats the part that sucks, not that I have anything to hide, I just think its immoral and I personally think the monitoring sites won't happen, but the downloads thing... a big possibility!

I would of thought we as humans have some privacy rights!

This is stupid, im a pirate. Im not scarred to say it, im sure more people here are also. Where not doing anything wrong, sure artists are getting less money, do they really need it? Why do they make more then Medics? and Police? Is that also fair? There just regular people with a huge bank account, witch to me is wrong. You wont see me pay 20bucks or 50bucks on a Game or music cd. Uk wont be able to do this.

I'd love to see it happen, just cause if they permanently remove your internet, the UK will only have internet in schools/businesses haha.

So you are a communist basically? They have the right to make money off of their work and should also be allowed to prosecute if you steal it. You do not have to buy it or listen to it. Do I think jail time or a huge fine is necessary? No. Some form of punishment may be necessary though.

I agree with Donna.. this is a dangerous issue. On one hand they would use it to tell you they're protected copyrighted materials... but on the other, they could check every single things you've done/said/checked/viewed/downloaded etc...

V for Vendetta kind of scenario isn't it?
