If I were you I would save and spend the money on of the new Mac Pro http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO.../family/mac_pro
Besides if you plan on working in the design industry this would be a btter way to go as most industries are using Mac in the workplace.
But do not spend the money on the iMac, even tho i thinkit is still great b ut you cannot benefit from its potential like the Mac Pro's. With the mac pros if you decide you can upgrade them with up too 4 Hard drives in the machine. which allows for more storage for all your graphics and large format files. I doubt you ll need tha many but the option is there.
My suggestion is find a Apple Retail store and go check it out.

Personally, if I had to buy a machine, it would have to be a Mac Pro with 2 HD Bays. 1 with Mac OS X and the other with XP
But this topic will most probably get closed so try and take the all the advice you can from it while you can dude!

As a video compositor, I know that technology is constantly evolving, so I prefer a Windows desktop, so I can constantly replace parts to make rendering faster, while on a mac I would have to buy a new one every time I wanted a new graphics card etc.
It's your choice, just be aware that when you buy a mac, you are buying proprietary software, which some people don't like.
Hope you make a good choice no matter what you choose

Sorry but this is a totally false argument. Macs are vulnerable to viruses and some apps from Apple (including Safari) have some of the worst security protection.
You should instead look at what each platform is offering in terms of software and hardware capabilities. Just keep in mind that PCs are easier to upgrade and have a much larger variety of software (usually costs less has well).
You should go try some macs at an Apple Store and see what you like best.

Just keep in mind that apple ads tend to be overegsadurated, macs DO get viruses just as easily (maybe even easier) than pcs, they're more vounreble, cuz less people use them.
Lol, sorry for the bad spelling

Contra: Without Windows it is not possible to play games like CS, ... So if you want to design and play I think you should choose a PC. Or do it just like S0LDIER. said:

Just go with what ever you are more experianced in or more comfortable using.
I personally use a pc, purely because thats what i know and is what i am most comfortable with, im not slating macs, they maybe brilliant, but i aint used one for long enough to be able to make that judgement.

I was told Mac's get the files but don't open them, but they send them to other Windows systems. I'll try and find the video on YouTube where a man gets a virus on his Mac
