would be much easier in Adobe AfterEffects. Sony Vegas is an editing software, it isn't meant to create special effects.

particle illusion is vety cool, for adding effects to a movie, but its rather expensive and kinda like a plugin, since you need to add the outcome in another program on top of the original.
