use more css, less photoshop
edit: a lot of the elements of your site could be done with css instead of images
edit 2: also upon further examination it is very rudimentary from a composition perspective, the elements are well done but how simpler can it get than:
HEADER
menu
content
content
content
content
edit 3: also in before "well it's common because it works!"

no i was saying it was a little tooo simple imo
it seems like you are a good designer judging by the general art work done on your site, you should check out http://www.csszengarden.com/ if you haven't already, i think you would be able to relate to a lot of the more abstract/"artsy"/cartoony designs, PLUS they use css!!

simply having good content and spamming around the internets is how sites like deviantart and somethingawful got started (not that those are the pinnacle of the internet, quite the opposite.)
plus a loyal userbase is always good too, helps word of mouth.
edit: also make sure all your ducks are in a row for the spiders that crawl around, you don't want to be left in the dust if someone googles content you have!

It's clean, simple, and "fun"
I think you hit the nail on the head when it comes to a good design for that kind of site. With a little work you should have no problem getting good amounts of traffic

Overall 9/10. (updated the score to a 9 seeing how everyone is rating other designs I've seen =D)
