Well you already wrote that it does????, then you edited your post. Having more fonts installed will eat up a lot of system resources and slow down the computer considerably depending what your system is, your friend installing 7000 is just crazy, his system must be extremely slow.

well my friend said that it does slow down your graphics software (he meant Illustrator I think!), but do you really need that many fonts?

oops did I post in the wrong area...sorry.

I've heard somewhere that windows loads up ALL of the fonts every time you boot up, (as in it loads it before it's needed), so your friends bootup time must be like an hour.

7000 FONTS?! He needs a good 2GB+++ RAM Just for the fonts!!

Thats insane! Why would you need that much?! I don't think a full-time web/media designer would even needs half of the amount of fonts!!

I have installed about... 5 or 6 on top of the defaults you get with OS X Leopard and im on 1GB RAM, so mine isn't a problem, but im pretty sure that having 4 figure amounts of fonts will pretty much kill my MacBook. :)

Defo slows down the computer, can also course program crashes, programs that use fonts, like photoshop / dreamweaver ect

From experience, the most i will install now is no more then 100, but it will also count on how good your pc's are
