How do i make those high definition custom banners for website with really kool designs.

sorta like http://www.teamfocal.org/

I know ill have to use adobe i think but how do i get started? There are so many tools i dunno where to begin.

this is one of my pictures that i made from a program but nothing more advanced can be done.
