forget about testing your site in IE6, it's an outdated non supported broswer. if someone is telling you it must work in IE5 and IE6 then they have no clue. If a developer of a browser doesn't support it neither should you.

There are a lot of reasons why you should support IE6. Many workplaces (and maybe even schools) don't allow their users to upgrade the browser themselves, so its not possible for them to install or run any other browsers except IE6 which is the default.

A lot of people don't see the need to upgrade their browser because they're happy with what they have.. not every one realises IE6 is a poor browser, so unfortunately they just stick with it. I can gaurantee that there is still a very high portion of people who are using IE6 still - so supporting it is a must, even if you think it's outdated.

i disagree because it's in the users best interest to be educated. IE6 isn't just outdated, it's a flawed browser with security issues. In the case of not having control to upgrade the browser the people need to speak up and make change. I've not met one person ever that's told me they are "happy" with IE6.

Even I was reluctant to upgrade to IE7 when it was release, but that was only because of all the problems I've had with IE6. Once I upgraded I noticed a lot less headaches and frustration. Don't you think that is something you should be advocating? Think of all the time you've spent personally tweaking valid markup so that it works on IE6. Now, think of spending that time doing something your actually passionate about.

Easy decision for me.

You can forget doing any work on IE5 as hardly anyone uses it and for the time being you need to gets sites to work in IE6 as there are still a lot of people using it.

Im looking at the site through IE6 and I dont see anything wrong with it, there is the odd small spacing thing with text, but overall it looks the same in FF and IE6, and the link you sent us is outdated and doesnt work.

And keep your replies on topic please, if you wanna debate IE6 then I am sure there are lots of topics which have been started about it already.

Ummmm dunno where on this big earth you get your info from but IE6 that shipped as a part of the OS or its associated service packs will continue to follow the support lifecycle of the operating system. Another words it's still supported. so please stop telling members it's not supported when it is. http://support.microsoft.com/?LN=en-us&...%5D%3Blifecycle

I can agree with you on IE being "junk" as a frustrated developer who has found a way to cooperate with building pages to accommodate the little things in IE that make some people's blood boil. As for not developing for IE 6... I'm sorry but as a developer you cannot expect and should not expect this of your users. If you are deploying a website you want it to be as accessible and easy to use as possible. You should NEVER develop a page where you expect users to upgrade something just to view your page. It isn't the way to go, you can recommend it but should never enforce it (obviously there could be some exceptions but in this case it seems to be at the convenience of the developer which is no exception unfortunately).

As Mr. Matt posted there are still over a quarter of users that will use IE6. That is a big chunk to be excluding! It may be a while still before things change.

Jel, if you don't want to support IE6, that's up to you. Just understand your clients will be disappointed when users complain that their sites don't look correct.

Until then, we are here to help recca with a problem. So lets do that.

I don't know what the problem you're having recca, but the following site may help. It details the various bugs in IE.
