I am new to this forum and I hope im putting this tread in the right place. If not I apologize now in advance. I am trying to find any information on how to duplicate an image effect ive seen on tv. And I wanted to apply it to something else. Basically I recently seen a commercial for converse feat pharell and santogold. I wanna know if anyone has a site or online tutorial that would teach me how to create that appearance.

I jsut want to learn how to do it myself . I hope someone can assist me in this matter any info would be greatly appreciated

Hey there dbahsee!

This isn't really up my alley so much but I'll give it a shot. You'll want to get a picture of the object or person you want to use. Then using the lasso tool you can grab select the shape of it but be sure to get some extra background around them, so select a few pixels away from the object all the way around (kind of like a messy-ish stroke).

Paste this layer in a new document.
Duplicate the layer.
If you hide one of the layers, use the eraser tool to erase the extra background stuff on your front layer, get this as close as you can to the shape of the object/person.

Then, unhide your background layer and set a color overlay on it 100% of whatever colour you want, probably a white or light grey colour. Then set the colour mode for your layers to grayscale.

Voila, you should have something like what you saw.

This is purely conceptual and I am not on a machine that has Photoshop right now so I can't actually tell you how it'll look or give you image examples.

You could also go over the image with some kind of brush afterwards too if you wanted.

Edit: This is under the assumption that you are using Photoshop. If you aren't let me know and maybe I can find a tutorial that's already made.
