I caught 30 mins of it at work, and from what I saw it was amazing, i saw the moving blocks with the people in them, you just cant describe it, the amount of work they must have put in with the timing and co-ordination. I think it was around 15,000 performers, and I would have loved to seen more of it, kinda makes me think how we are gunna top that in 4 years time, either way, i am making sure I am there

Didn't see it all, i see the scroll with the hands and feet painting as they danced or something. Pretty good.

London has a lot to do to impress everyone in 2012!

Yeah the timing and coordination was incredible, I think I only saw one guy slightly out of timing and he quickly compensated for it.

Part of Olympic display altered in broadcast
Some aerial footage of fireworks digitally created months in advance

MSNBC
updated 11:16 a.m. MT, Mon., Aug. 11, 2008

Part of the elaborate Olympics fireworks show broadcast to the world in the opening ceremony was altered, done digitally in 3-D computer graphics, according to several news reports.

While the dramatic display actually happened as portrayed on television, members of the Beijing Olympic Committee said it was necessary to replace live video with computer-generated imagery because the city’s hazy, smoggy skies made it too difficult to see, according to The Beijing Times, which first reported the story.

Committee members also said they were concerned that the helicopter pilot who would have flown overhead to film the fireworks would have been “at risk by making him try to follow the firework route,” according to a quote from a committee member reported in a Daily Telegraph story.

what it really looked like

Yeah, I thought the animated sequence was noticeable.. so I'm not sure if they were trying to convince the audience it was real, or if they just wanted to show the audience what was happening outside. The fireworks still went off in that order, so it's not like they were trying to show something that didn't happen.

Thought this was pretty funny: BSoD error

Australia seem to be doing well, so I'm happy :) Especially in the Woman's relay - we weren't expected as ones to break the world record at all.
