The first mobile telephone using Google's Android software has been unveiled.

The T-Mobile G1 handset will be available in the UK in time for Christmas.

The first device to run the search giant's operating system will feature a touch screen as well as a Qwerty keyboard.

It will be available for free on T-Mobile tariffs of over Ł40 a month and includes unlimited net browsing.

Other features include a three megapixel camera, a 'one click' contextual search and a browser that users can zoom in on by tapping the screen.

The handset will be wi-fi and 3G enabled and has built-in support for YouTube.

Users will also have access the so-called Android Market, where they will be able to download a variety of applications.

3 megapixel camera seems outdated they have much higher in ordinary phones and the querty keyboard is old as well so why do you want this? Because it's Google?

Actually I love the keyboard concept... touch only bloooooooooows lol! Don't most cell phones have super low 3MP cameras or worse? I have yet to see a cell phone with a decent camera in it, and you probably always will until they make one with a flash in it :)

All the old style have 3 and less, 5 mega pixels has been out for a year or so and 8mp's came out early this year. A few I've seen take crappy pics much prefer a real camera.

Camera cell phones?? Not in Canada there aren't, and if they are there's only a couple. Can you link me to 5mp and 8mp phones available in Canada? Even the latest phones are 2 or 3 at the moment. I just looked at Bell Mobility, they don't have a single phone available that is higher than a 3.

Either way, MP is meaningless without the flash and ability to control Aperture. Cell phone cameras have to operate at very high ISO, so they are very grainy no matter how big the file is.

I have a Motorola cellphone from Telus with a 3 MP camera. At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Tsk tsk D, I would have hoped for better research from you on this one :P

ALL Rogers phones:

http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wirelessBuy...ductType=normal

57 phones listed.

Of those 57 phones, 33 have cameras.

Of those 33 phones only 1 is higher than 2 Megapixels and that's the Nokia N95 with a 5 Megapixel camera.

So like I said, 2 and 3 megapixels is what you get with most current models of phone cameras. Check any phone dealer and you'll see.

No, I said only a couple in Canada might be more than 2 or 3, which is exactly right. That Rogers listing is for Canada, not just my province. Go look through any of the providers and see if you can find more than 2 or 3 phones out of the 50+ listed.

Again, my original statement is that 2 or 3 megapixels is the current standard for phones, which is 100% correct. 5mp or higher is extremely rare in current offerings, so your statement that "3 megapixel camera seems outdated they have much higher in ordinary phones" is not correct. Only extremely high end models have it. Even my $500 LG phone is a 2 or a 3 and I just bought it a few months ago.

Come on D, at this point you arguing for the principal or something...

Edit - Just looked around at US providers as well. Same thing, 2 or 3 megapixel models is the norm and only 1 or 2 phones have anything higher.

As soon as the 5 and 8 mega pixels were released all those others then become out dated, just like a PC does, anyways I haven't time to argue lol but you know what I mean.

Ummm no, that's totally mistaken. Technology rollover is based on current offerings and consumer demand, not the highest model on the sales floor. If you have 50 models for sale and 1 phone has a feature the rest don't, it has zero bearings on the other 49 in terms of "dated technology". Now, if 49 phones have that feature and 1 doesn't, then you have an outdated model.

I award you no point, and may god have mercy on your soul.

When a PC configuration is outdated, the model is no longer produced... they don't keep making the majority of PCs with the same configuration and only stock 1 or two models with current technology. Same with the phones. As long as the majority of current models released have 2 and 3 megapixels, that is considered current industry standards. Once the market switches to a 5+ majority, they won't even make phones with that level any more.

With your logic, because Samsung has a 10 megapixel camera in their SCH-B600 phone that means everything else with less than 10 is outdated even though barely anyone sells anything beyond a 2 or 3?
