Hey all.
I have a question about a recent online purchase I made from
a very recognizable company.
The company will remain nameless for now.
But here goes....

I purchased some Dual Layer DVD's. All was great until I received them
and noticed the price seemed higher than what I recalled.
I was correct they changed the price of product.

Is this legal after I clicked and paid a recorded price in my shopping cart?

They have acknowledged the change in price, but say they cannot control
price changes.

***EDIT***
FYI here is thier reply

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We are unable to offer any sort of price protection. Due to the constant fluctuation of prices in this industry, the cost of our inventory is changing regularly. Our product pricing is determined by our Marketing and Purchasing departments collaboratively due to various circumstances.

If you have an e-mailed reciept that reflects the price you remember paying, and a secondary reciept that shows what you actually paid, then i'm sure you can use that against them, but i've never dealt with this issue, so don't quote me.

If you paid with a credit card do a chargeback, pretty sure the price cannot be changed after you have already paid unless you were in canadian dollars and it converted to US $ etc

BBB http://www.bbb.org/canada/ would be the people to ask, that's what I'd do then name and shame them.

What you can do is grab your receipt, locate the total of purchase before price change, and locate the price after they changed it. See if they'll give you the difference on your card... Like rc69 said, don't quote me on this lol.

It depends upon you to accept or to reject the product because of the asking and quoted price difference. If you don't get the adequate response, you may go to the court also. Legally company is bound to sell the product at the quoted rate.

Locate the company's return policy and print out a copy along with any receipts that you may have and read them.

If you have a copy of the price that you had on the shopping cart, and not what they changed later call the company and tell them that you have the original price and that you don't think they should be charging you more. See what their response is. Tell them that if you don't get the product at the price that was advertised that you will be calling your credit card company to do a chargeback, returning the product, and reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, most company's require you to pay to return the product to them, so if the threat of a return and or chargeback (see below) doesn't get you what you want, you will have to shell out the money to ship the product back (and if you do, get some kind of signature delivery).

If the company still gives you trouble, and you don't have a copy of the original price anywhere, you call your credit card company and ask what they would recommend for you to do (usually a chargeback). If you were using an American Express, you probably won't have a problem. Do what the credit card company advises you to do.

Good luck!
