I have a list of local religious locations that I have used in the past for work.
With the economy so bad, do I dare to offend those past clients by sending them a marketing email.

I am just a bit worried that it will alienate them.

So I guess my question is, how to I send them email marketing without offending them?
Will I then just become a piece of SPAM?

Not sure on your perception why a religious faction would label your returning services as SPAM, unless you're SPAM!
Make sense? :)

Add a personal touch to your message sent to them and give them a feel for your presence and current affiliations with life?
Don't see any real depth since you are very vague about what you asked.

My 2 cents

Yup just send them emails and get them back. But one thing in my mind why you are thinking on religious prospects.

If they know you then you can mail.
You can mail them only one time adding your add but in polite way.

you should choose the target customer carefully, thus you can send the email contain information which the reciver want to know, in that case, you wont be spammer anymore :)

Send them a gift. Download a PLR ebook and promise them another at a future date. There is a myth about cold selling to list outside a niche but everybody has some things in common like Christmas, birthdays, cooking etc. Gradually send them offers, then you have an online business. Good luck.

Offer them the facility so that they can either ask you not to send them mails or unsubscribe from your mailing list.
