I just made a nice shine hourglass and it looks really good but it's missing the sand inside. I'm not planning on making an animation, just a still but I have no idea how to go about making falling sand. Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW, I'm a beginner at C4D.

I don't know C4D all to well but if you need something quick and easy I would suggest modeling the shape of your sand in the hour glass and add a texture with a noise as a displacement map or a bump map... then for the little pieces that are falling just have a bunch of little spheres... but it all depends on how close up it is and how nice of quality you need... personally I would use particles for the hole thing but I don't know if C3D has any.
