So I don't know if you've heard much about these things or read up on them but alot of companies are starting to come up with touchpads that will act as simple web browsers and e-book readers. Pretty much getting ride of newspapers and and magazines and books.

Here is a couple links on some and articles about the hole things.

So yeah I was just curious to see what you guys all thought about this stuff.

Personally I'm on the edge on this still. I love the idea about it and how it will be so much better then dealing with recycling and trash. Plus you can get your newspapers automatically sinc'ed up without even leaving the house. Plus News could be updated many times a day when the news is actually happening instead of waiting to find out the day after.

But for books and stuff I think I would miss having the feeling of them in my actual hands. Plus reading for long periods of times on a screen is a pain in the ass and hurts my eyes. Also I'm sure pirated e-books will cause a lot more problems.

For students though it could be alot cheaper. Instead of having to buy hole new books and manuals every year when only a couple of lines got changes over from last years. This could be a lot easier. Plus needing to deal with all the publishers and print shops. Teachers could easily get noes passed around in the classes. Maybe even if the would have an add-on where you can sinc up to a teachers tablet and see what he is doing instead of having a big projector or what not.

For me, right now I see a lot of potential in these things but I can also see how things will change and how alot of things can go wrong and having it mess up with other things without even thinking about it.

They didn't mention anything about them. But it would be interesting if they would attach a little earphone jack so that your can hear those audio books or things like that for the visually impaired.

These things aren't for intense computer work. They are meant for more like reading and stuff. To replace books and newspaper and magazines and it will save us from all that trash it accumulates.

I think you guys are missing the point a bit. :)

Lol

So you'd gather carry like 3 of those big university books around with you plus your binders and notes?

Plus doing it this way more people will be able to publish their books without worrying about all the expenses it take to publish them. Also I'm sure the price of books and magazines and newspaper would go down since they are cutting out a lot of expenses.

Not a very good idea. Because the touchscreens are not much quality things, after a certain period of usage.

Yeah I guess that is true but technology will only improve as the years go. I still remember the first touch screens and the touch screens used in restaurants. They weren't the greatest thing but people saw potential in it and kept trying to improve it. After that we have touchscreens like the iPhone or the table screen Microsoft is working on. So just imagine another couple years from now and I'm sure it will just keep getting better.

Yeah, I believe their intended purpose is for things like how at the Apple store they have little handheld devices they can check you out so you don't have to wait in line.
