trying to get rid of text under icons (win xp)

I'm trying to get rid of the text under my desktop icons, I have an HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop and I've tried alt+255 and it doesn't work, not sure what I am doing wrong :\

Do you mean the text that appears under icons on the desktop? I don't think you can. You can remove the little arrow from the icons but each icon needs to have a label.

Well text under icons can't be removed as far as i know.

Using the Alt+255 trick still works for me. You have to do it more than once though for each different Icon because each has to have unique names.
