I want to create a transparent glass like gradient - something similar to the an overlay level or using the opacity, so when I make it a web div's background image you'll be able to see through to whatever background image is underneath it.

When I make the gradient and save it as a gif, it seems to ignor the opacity level I've set and then instead of what I see in Photoshop, it replaces the colour with a fixed colour, losing its transparent property?!?!

Every tutorial on the web seems to take a image, delete the background colour (anything white or whatever), this is not what I want...


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a way of making GIF images "Look" Transparent, But GIF images do save with a background, even if you take away the BG from the layers in photoshop, GIF images dont suport transpanrency.

You need to save your transparent images as PNG, this is the format for true transparncy, Hope this helps

Save it as JPG or PNG. That way the transparency will remain.
