I've seen some renders done with emmitors and they have a cool feeling to them... but how do I use emmitors to make things happen...

okay... first you need to know that it's written emitters, not emittors.

ok, i'll suppose you use c4d.

Just in case you haven't find out how to spawn them, go to Objects > Particle > Emitter.
ok, on to the emitter settings:

Under the Particle tab:

Birthrate Editor: number of particles per second that will be created on the editor window.
Birthrate renderer: number of particles per second that will be created when you render your scene on the picture viewer.
Visibility: percentage of particles that will be visible.
Start Emission: frame where the emitter will start emitting particles.
Stop Emission: Frame where the emitter will stop emitting particles.
Seed: number that influenciates the random position on the emitter where the particles will be spawned.

Lifetime: number of frames the particles will "survive"
Speed: units per second.
Rotation: degrees the particle will rotate on the full scene (all frames)
End Scale: ending size of the particles. a particle disappears on the frame set in lifetime

The last four settings have a variation form in front of each of them. i think this is clear enough for anyone to understand.

Tangential: If selected, the particles stay in their original rotation axis (no particle rotation).
Show Objects: For an Emitter to spawn objects of your choice (let's take a pre -built cube as example) you have to drag and drop it inside the emitter (in the object manager) and check this option.ok, create a cube and an emitter. drag the cube under the emitter. check show objects. now click the play button under the editor and see your particles (in this case, a cube) being spawned

Under the Emitter tab:

Emitter type: Pretty clear, uh? On the cone you just have one amplitude, wich will form a sphere of emission around the emitter. On the Pyramid, you have two, which act like height and width, with the exception that they will form an area around the emitter.

X-Size and Y-Size: do I need to explain this?

On the Objects menu, particle > there are a lot of interactors, the basis for them is the influence axis the intensity. Just rotate them and apply different values of strenght/angle.

Particles can also be used in Expresso, but it's way too complex to explain here. I suggest you take a few expresso tutorials, and then move to here, under the thinking particles part.
