Why do so many hide the real url in .tk domain?

Personally I don't see the point

Can anyone give me a good explanation why they use these.

I mean why hide a .com in a .tk Posted Image

Most people just can't be bothered or are too cheap to pay for hosting or buy a top level domain.
.tk and .cjb.net seem pointless to me.

But that brings you back to the too cheap to pay for hosting thihng. And if some ISPs are blocking .tk you're going to get less visitors than you would if somebody couldn't remember your link. Especially with favourites or bookmarks available in almost every browser.

Domain Registration: $6.95/year, $0.58/month, $0.02/day. If you can't afford 2 pennies a day, go for a walk and pick them up off the sidewalk. It's that easy. I don't see why people don't spend the pocketchange and get a domain, many registrars accept personal cheques. I personally have 4 domains, and it's not a noticable cost whatsoever. It's so cheap it's funny that people won't spend the money for them.

Its is really cheap for a .com but the problem is for 14yr olds whateva there parents sometimes dont let them use there Visa or whateva payment method.

pfff...... .tk domains suck but they are good for people who are just begining in the world of web design. Cause i remember when i first started i dindnt want to pay for a domain or space because i needed practice (i still need practice). my friend payed for space and a domain and he just started The Site and look at his site. Dont think its worth the money.

Hm... I see your points. But in many cases people feel like they're not ready to get a .com or a .net since they don't get enough visitors. But on the other hand I guarantee that you'll get more visitors with a .com. This is because people see that you are dedicated enough to by a real domain. And not just som cheap lame .tk adress which you really don't own btw.

I bought my domain since it was included in the price of the site. And with the domain I got emails for my domain and subdomains. So there's really more to it than just the .com. I wouldn't even think of hiring a webmaster who uses a .tk, and the reason is that as said before a top level domain doesn't cost anything.

For a 14 year old it could be hard buying from their parents VISA cards or something. But I payed the money to my parents and then they payed for me, it's really not that hard.

Let me calculate: 32,214,144 * $12 = $386,569,728 per year only for Go Daddy, WOW! Do their servers cost so much? I don't think so. I don't want to make some men rich, I have principles!

Well, all the countries are starting to get their own TLD. TK apparently belongs to "Government of Tokelau and Teletok". Also, .COM has been around for ages and the available domains are rather slim pickings unless you use a VERY unique and/or specific domain.

I have even created a few .US and .ME domains.

The ones I don't get is the .co.uk and other type domains. I don't even like using the www in my domain, I will always redirect users to the non-WWW version. I guess, like syntex said, some people starting sites are 14 year olds and their parents don't let them have access to a credit card so that might be cheaper and easier to get.
