Everyone knows the major downside of building a site in flash only has the great disadvantage of not being searchable by engines like Google, Altavista, Hotbot etc etc.

I've started using the loadVariables function, thus importing all my flash website texts from .txt files. I noticed that I can select these bits of text with the cursor when viewing the page. Does this mean that search engines can go through it too? If that's true, to hell with plain HTML, cuz flash delivers everything I need. Hope I'm not excited for nothing over here :P

Need ya knowledge, tnx

Umm well it's kinda obvious, since not being able to index a flash file text, won't give you a good rating with the Googlebots or other crawlers. It's just like putting text inside a picture, it will never get tracked (unless you use an alt tag). I got my info from a 20 page essay I did on SEO, but I just used the phrase "Everyone knows the major downside..." to make the post more bombastic and commercial :D

BTW, I used the search option but didn't find anything related to loadVariables text and SEO....(I know my post count and join date might give me away for a noob, but I've been an admin for 2 years now on an invisionfree forum with over 4000 people and I know the search function can sometimes be crappy :( )

Tnx for trying though :P

BTW you mention after reading this again:

I have seen 100% flash sites with google rankings as high as 7/8 btw. There is another article written on this unable to locate but I'm sure :( will pull it up for you.

I'm talking about sites that are made 100% in flash...I can't imagine a flash site having a PR of 7 or 8 mark unless somehow they managed to give the crawlers some raw text to chew on....still thanks for the link...I found some other useful infos on it :(
