Am I missing an update or something? I got C4D version 9.012 and it seems I dont have the stuff needed for some tutorials...

Maybe it's just me being silly but I cant find the text-making feature either

Well I don't know about the text feature (I just export from photoshop), but you can get release9.1 from maxon.net

Most tutorials are for versions prior to 9 (either xl7 or R8). They streamlined most features in 9, it's not that they aren't there, it's just in very different places than the previous versions. Learn the program basics by reading the instruction book or by using the help file before trying tutorials, it will make a big difference if you get the basics down first.
