Hi, this is my first post on Pixel2Life's forums and I apologize if this is the wrong forum.

1. I was looking for a good book that would help me get started with PHP/MySQL - any suggestions?
2. How long will it take me to become an intermediate at PHP?

Thank you.

A book to definitly check out is PHP 5 Fast and Easy Web Development by Julie Meloni. I am only 14, and by reading this book, I have been able to learn the basics of PHP. After combining the scripts in this book, along with some online tutorials, and help from Pixel2Life, I have been able to write my own scripts and create my own website.

Could you please share a link to your site?

I know there are a lot books out there about PHP, I'm looking for specific suggestion of books people thought were especially good/helpful.

Ok from your suggestions I have narrowed it down the last one and need to know which of the first two I should get.

Which one?

i'd probably say the first and third, as they are different subjects, getting the 2nd and 3rd together would be pointless as they cover the same subject (php and mysql) and specialise on that.. but the first gives an overview of most of php :D

My site isn't up yet, though I have learned log in scripts with cookies, editing files on ftp, logging entries into mysql databases and showing results, file upload, and more. The book also includes a small section about XML

Thanks for posting this topic, i was about to post one exactally the same. I think ive got pretty far learning PHP from tutorials, but i think the next step for me is to buy a PHP book. Thanks for all your suggestions, i will have look at them now and decide which to buy.

Also, what courses does everyone take to learn webdesign? Ive just left high school and am taking my GCSEs soon. Im then going on to 6th form to do my A / A2 levels. What is the best thing for me to do as i am very interested in webdesign and design in general?

Thanks Alex
