What are the best animation tools to work with? I want something simple but good.

Truthfully, flash is as simple as your going to go.
( from my opinion )

how old can you be... no seriously.. what would the web be like if i decided to quit when i decided making a website is hard.. much more boring.
flash is your best (only?) bet.

Flash is complicated so yes your right, it takes awhile to get around it and is a very expensive program to get just to make a banner.

Theres lots of other programs around that create animations.

Imageready is pretty simple i guess, it can also export to swf too.

Although as a sidenote; Photoshop/ImageReady is almost 2x as expensive as Flash MX 2004.

Flash!!!! Imageready/Phoshop is just crap for animations...
