I'm not sure if that is working if you are dialled into a normal cable/dsl provider.

but yeh, basically just type "ipconfig /release"

In dos or prompt or whatever type:

"ipconfig /release"

then once that is done type:

"ipconfig /renew"

Do I have to be disconnected from the net?

Why do you want to change your IP?

Unless your upto something illegal you really have no reason to change it.

If its for privacy reasons the FBI can still track you anyways :P

If you use a proxy you'll be sending them everywhere, but they will eventually get you...

You'd be going through too much trouble and your provider would scream. I know this because well lets say, been there done that. I was expirmenting with linux and I did a few things...I'm not going into details but anyways just use proxies much easier and less law suits...

i understand why you want to change your IP address, so if you get into some kind of internet crimes you can cover yourself... joking, you can do some kind of command in DOS or do some IP spoofing (i can't remember how it works, or what it means) or you can buy some software to manually change it, or you can go offline for a while then connect back to the web, your IP should've changed

on a serious note you can change your IP address at the request of doing so by your ISP, i know in some very rare situations you can change everything, IP address and netmask address and everything your computer emits on the web if your being stalked or for other extremely rare situations
