I'm after an effect like the one when you mouse over the Nav on K10k. I know it involves having a long .gif in a sequence but I have no clue about the code. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?

If you mean the image affect then try using flash for that. You would have to look up a flash button tutorial if your keen enough.
For the writing under that then you can have a look at my tutorial i made at www.kschembri.com. It will show you how to make that text appear when you rollover a image or text or anything of your choice.
