How to save a render in 3dsm without that black background? so it has no background?

save it as a .tga format, then when you open photoshop go into the channels panel and load the alpha channel as your selection, then inverse the selection, and hit delete and you will have no background.

if your using glass or a material with opacity remember to tick the enable alpha in the material editor on the relevant material so that it doesnt come out with a black background, and you can see the new background through it.
