Stroking a path in Photoshop CS

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forums and relatively new to using photoshop. I am in the process of building a website and as you've probably guessed photoshop is at the center of my website design. I am currently having a problem stroking a path I make in photoshop cs. If I open up a new document, create a new path, and create a shape I want with the pen tool it will only stroke the anchor points of the shape. How do I fix this?
