I've made an error 404 page for my website, for when people miss-type the address, or the address no-long exists. However, I'm not sure how to 'activate' it, that's the only way I can describe it. I tried putting it in my base directory as 404.htm, but that didn't work. Thanking you in advance,

Edit something in your control panel maybe?
To edit the Error 404 page on my site I go to my control panel and it is an option there to paste in whatever for a custom 404 page.

Create a blank file in notepad and call it "htaccess.txt". Open it up and put this in it:
Then upload it to your public_html/ folder, and rename it to .htaccess.

ErrorDocument 404 /404.htm

Actually he could save it simply as .htaccess, it works just fine (just have to edit the program to open it with).
And if you're not running an apache server, i think uploading it as 404.shtml would work just the same.
If you don't know what server you're running, ask your host.
