Hi,
I use Soundmax and have an Asus motherboard. Ive just got off holiday and when i came back to my pc and tried to play music the sound was extremely low and i struggled to hear it so i turned my speakers up and i could just hear distortion, I checked all my sound settings and they all seem to be correct. Does anyone have any ideas to what is wrong? All help appreciated.

Do you have a cat? Check your wires... and make sure your jack is plugged in all the way :D

i say check the plugs going into your motherboard, make sure there not loose... or turn them around a little (clockwise etc) to see if theres a problem with the socket.
Check the wires for nasty problems known as the cat
also check your speakers make sure they havnt been dropped etc... test them with another piece of sound equipment like Ipod etc
lastly check the connection between the wire and the speaker
