Hi There

I have two questions about PHP.

1)

I need to download the php program but which one should I use. I looked at the php website (link Below) there is a 5.0.4 version. But there's two links to choose from which one should I use.

PHP 5.0.4 (tar.bz2) [4,620Kb] - 03 Apr 2005
md5: fb1aac107870f897d26563a9cc5053c0

PHP 5.0.4 (tar.gz) [5,702Kb] - 03 Apr 2005
md5: 8edf259bcfab4cfc890a4bb4e7c3649f

http://www.php.net/downloads.php#v4

2)

How does the program work. Does it just let you test you php webpages offline.

Hi again user

Look for the Windows Binary category on the downloads page at PHP.net and download either PHP 4.4.0 and make sure you DOWNLOAD the ZIPPED package and not the installer package (PHP 4.4.0 zip package) or just click here.

Once thats downloaded, you'll need to get Apache, you'll be able to get that from here

Once you have got Apache and PHP downloaded follow this tutorial here.

This will tell you how to install Apache and PHP properly in easy step by step guides on a Windows Operating System. Don't worry about version numbers for the two peices of software.

Yes PHP will alow you to make PHP pages offline, good luck

As per your original question... The only difference between those 2 files is the compression method. The actuall files them selves are no different from one another.
Just make sure you have software that can uncompress the files (i.e. winRAR)

It all depends on the version of php/mysql/apache you want. As usual, the guys at php.net would probably recommend going with the php 5 package, but it's all up to you.

From reading that quote, i'd go with the top package.

Wouldn't the bottom of the two be better as it has the latest versions of all?

Theoretically the bottom would be better (since it's newer), but the top one is the stable one. So my opinion would be to go with the top.
