"..putting the pieces together.." to me sounds like a puzzle, so maybe if you were going to do this, make them puzzle pieces, bc right now is a little hard to get it because of the cluster of images. Maybe if they weren't all straight and some where turned or something and you added some depth... yeh. that would pick it up off the background of the page a bit.
Overall, a good and different concept, just keep going with it.

Since this was the first attempt I used the rectangular marquee ...I should have prolly tried to make some random shapes here.
