i've got a question regarding making complex iillustrations using illustrator cs2.

i'm trying to draw things, and i can draw them realtively fine, but i expected it to be somehow eaiser to flatten it or merge / divide lines into shapes (for coloring etc).

is this something i'm supposed to do in photoshop afterwards? seems a little counterintuitive.

if anyone has any comments about the methodology/best practices, i'd appreciate it.
