I think this is something really special: How can I promote a gaming-website? We're doing news and reviews and stuff.

Most normal things for promotion probably won't work. Getting a high google page rank? I think that'll be impossible, because it's simply impossible to get a higher page rank than those big gaming pages.

I think it'll be really hard to make the visitors stay on the website.

So anyone got some special tips, tricks, ideas, whatever?

Well there are plenty of good tutorials on P2L about promoting. Have a search for a user called "theblogbeat" he has some great advice.

Yea, i've found this to be very difficult with my newest website as well. Not specifically just gaming, but it's very difficult to - not even compete with, but to follow the bigger websites.

My recommendation, don't go to bigger website and post there (if thye have forums), you might get a few people, but most will just flame you.

Since we're in a similar dilemma here, if I figure anything out I'll let you know. :D

I would try the Web2 approach - start some social media buzz and get the word out. Places like Pixel2Life or social bookmarking sites like digg are the perfect place to go. Try blog comments as well, as long as you don't come of as a spammer.

give people what they want.

especially with gaming, gamers alwys want to win something and gain recognition. find some sponsors. even if its a small company like GelTabs email them they will send you some free Gel Tabs as long as you advertise the mon your site, and you can give those out as prizes. raise money, or tough it out and go out and buy a new game that is hot and have a contest winner gets the hot new game.

but I do strongly suggest you contact some gaming manufacturers and let them know you'll advertise them in return for some prizes.

You can promote it as any other type of site ... using seo.
Only special sites like adult have a different marketing approach and this is due to the fact that you will be allowed only on certain site to advertise/place a link for an adult site.
The rest of sites ... classic seo.

Press release
A great way to gain attention with your video game and trailer is to give it a PR release. This means paying money and testing the water. If you’ve got something unique about you game or game trailer, you’ve got to use it.

Social networking
You’ve got to be on social media as yourselves and a company to work well, build a twitter, Facebook page, Google plus, Tumblr, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, and any other social site you use.

Take your name so no one else does and make sure to make twitters and Google plus’s of each person who works on the game full-time. Link them all together after.

Use them regularly and pay for Facebook advertising this will help you gain some reach and some views. You can check our how to guides for building a massive fan base on this site. This will come in really handy in the future, it will be a way of contacting all your fans and getting more sales.

Forums.
This is one of the more important things in how to promote your video game. One of the best things I ever tried for getting views was using a forums. I used all sorts and just tried to get people’s opinions on my pre released games.
