I have been trying to make an email link work in fireworks by using the hotspot, then inserting the link in the open box at the bottom - saved it as HTML and Image. Checked it in the browser and it works fine but when I upload it to the server it doesn't work. I made sure to upload both the HTML page. Okay - maybe I didn't the HTML to the dreamweaver page - could that be it.

You should try applying mapping in Dreamweaver, not Fireworks. Export your image (as JPEG for example), and then open a new document in Dreamweaver, select your image, click on square mapping tool and draw. Then put mailto:[email protected] in the link.
