While browsing through old topics on Pixel2life one of the things that has caught my eye are the signature banners that a lot of our members had. Hell, a significant portion of the graphics content shared on the forum over the years has been signatures and avatars. I recall frequently posting my own designs and switching out my personal signature far more often than was probably necessary.

Maybe i'm just browsing the wrong forums, but I don't believe any of the ones I frequent these days have/allow that feature. Most don't even have a signature area, and if they do, it's limited to a single line of text. I can think of a number of reasonable explanations for this: websites are more conscious of the data usage they inflict on mobile users, load times are more important than ever when it comes to SEO, and it's extremely time consuming to moderate thousands of signatures for inappropriate content.

Are there any large forums you browse that still offer this small creative outlet to their users? If so, is it still implemented in the same way as it's done on Pixel2life and other forums of the past, or have they taken a new approach?

It's been a long time since I've thought about Imageshack. That makes sense, most of my signatures were hosted there. Was Photobucket the other big image host?

Oh yeah, definitely a ton of image hosts are gone or they changed their URL structure etc.

I'm sure there's still some huge forums out there that will allow signatures.

However, I was part of a few design forums and other niche ones but they have since closed down. It's sad really.

So much has changed in the last 15 years its crazy. Forums lost popularity and other formats and platforms rose.

Creators and discussions went to Reddit, Facebook, Github, and DeviantArt.

There's some forums left with tons of activity. For example Bodybuilder.com I think has one of the 10 biggest active forums left.

I've lost so much work over the years to dead hosts.

Don't forget about the grunge styles and bit fonts that were constantly used. Layer a whole lot of Photoshop brushes, overlay them, add some random gradients...then add an image of a character in the middle and add some random text in bit font.

Congratulations you have won the sig contest :)
