MattyK, RedDragon and Griffin,

You're fairly evenly tied for first place - the client is really happy with what you've got so far and she's just waiting to see which makes it into the 'perfect' category.

MattyK - the weed leaf..........isn't going to work sad.gif . Client wasn't too happy about that one! For the same reason, Myoto can't get away with a maple leaf. Your (daffodil? orchid?) flower works, the colours work, #3 and #6 are the nicest out of the lot as you add a little too much complexity into some.

Griffin - the frangipani..............is slight 'graffiti', but a lovely concept. The client thought you'd raised the bar a bit too, and that it worked a lot better together. The font, although not perfect at smaller resolutions, worked well. Slightly too grey overall maybe.

RedDragon - you're so close. the 'p' doesn't work for the client, and she wasn't sold on the vine, that it was a vine, or what the vine had to do with 'spa'. Aside from that, she loved the colours, the print-friendliness, the weight of it as a brand, and that it would look good if called to translate to a product range in the future. The font was different, yet sophisticated, and the she was really please with your holistic approach. It worked, it was 'less' if you took anything out, but it was 'more' than the text alone. Congrats.

I feel it may be best to close this early if the client says 'that's perfect' what do you all think? (everyone, that is)

best wishes,

John

Here's one I lost earlier:

1. MattyK post #115

Logos 3-7. These work best, they're more simple. You're top at the moment, my only worry is that the daffodil/orchid might get pipped at the post. You've responded really well to (constructive) criticism, your work has a high polish. might be worth dropping the .co.uk and seeing if you can balance it as well?

2. Griffin - #111

Green Logo. As I said, you raised the bar. Really good, upmarket feel. The frangipani could be less 'graffiti/surfwear style', and overall it might be too grey. It was much closer, the top three are almost too close to call. It could be a more abstract flower, or less detailed? The flower is a bit too masculine for the clients taste, also.

3. RedDragon - #112

Colours good, client really liked your ideas and liked that you'd thought about what the brand meant. She didn't the gap in the font, (maybe you could create some paths?) and she didn't feel that the 'vine' worked - initially she wasn't sure what it was. She also liked that the font was distinctive but classy. If the vine idea worked a little better for her, this would be her favourite, and she liked that it could translate to product as well as website longer term. Really simple, but really good. If you could join up the p's and do something different with the emblem/icon, you'll probably win.

Thanks for your valuable criticism. I do agree with them, and made some changes to the first version. I think this new version is better. The 'closed' P emphasises the words more, especially 'spa'. The leaves are now connected to the 'L' and are placed in a more random order. I came up with the leafs as Simple Spa emphasises nature, vividness and growth/healing. It's a process, just like the growing of a plant/tree.

Anyways, to illustrate the drawing process, I used 3 versions:

First I closed the p's, to get a look at the new lettertype. The need to replace the leafs is still there ofcourse.

So I removed the leafs which results in the following version. If this suits the client better, it's fine by me as well ofcourse. However, I like the next one best..

The end-result, which I'm quite happy with. Leafs are connected and placed more carefully, to give a more random, natural look. I also played with big branches and everything, but its this simple version that really looks best and gives that nice accent to the lettertype and logo overall.

If the logo would be used on packaging in the near future, the green colours can be perfectly used for this. By making the logo in 2 PMS colours, the logo already is ready for printing purposes. 2 colours instead of a fullcolour logo saves lots of money.

Depending on the background, the logo has two versions. In both versions, the word 'spa' stands out.

Finally, a logo also has to look good in gray scale and pure black and white, for various reasons (fax, copy etc). Therefore, you should always check a logo in these two settings:

That should be all! If you have any questions, feel free to ask happy.gif

RedDragon - vastly improved, leaves aren't quite right though, too scattered and not 'crafted' enough. Hope to speak to the client again tomorrow, she's on UK time and I'm not.

looking good though smile.gif

Hi John,

what is it exactly you'd like to see, more detail in the leafs? I have two reasons why I chose for this concept; the leafs in my logo have the same 'structure' as the letters. The curves are more or less the same, so is the pointy top in comparison with the ends of the letter 'S', 'P' and 'Y'. The thickness is also close to the letter's thickness.

Next to that they can be easily scaled down without a huge change in the logo.

ok, now i started i can't get it out of my head smile.gif.
My last one seems to be too detailed and not worth a comment, therefore I thought it'd be time to read about simply spa aswell. Interestingly enough the first images coming to my head were not plants or such, so I m taking the risk to go in slightly different direction.

I chose the dragonfly, because it's an animal you dont see very often but I always thought it very beautiful. The other animal on my mind (butterfly) just seemed too ordinary and without enough apeal. It has a both masculin and feminin effect and in this position sits peacefully. The apeal to nature for me comes more through life and movement then through plants which in my opinion are too static for the message.

Hope you liked my thoughts and what i made of it, criticism would be apreciated.

Nothingman its nice, but looking at the feedback hes left so far hes probably going to say its to high (vertically) and the light detail on that flower will probably disappear when the size is decreased.

Here are some variants on the flower, the first half are just color changes, the last half are using a different font.

Another shot at it! (Totally different style than my others) and just remember, colors, shape, and everything else is changeable, it's just the design you're looking at tongue.gif.

@Discontinuity i'm sure someone here could do EXACTLY what she wanted if the client told you exactly what she wanted, we're sorta shooting in the dark with you as our flashlight.. (Don't take that the wrong way as it was just an expression) victory.gif
