QUOTE For the same reason, Myoto can't get away with a maple leaf. what do you mean? maple leaves are bad unless you're actually selling maple. it's because of inherent perceptions. you see a green maple leaf done in illustrator, many people will think it's a cannabis leaf. most won't, but you're better off without the mixed message. there are a surprising number of things that can give a mixed message - so it's mostly a case of being careful with icons/colours etc. |

@Discontinuity i'm sure someone here could do EXACTLY what she wanted if the client told you exactly what she wanted, we're sorta shooting in the dark with you as our flashlight.. (Don't take that the wrong way as it was just an expression) I'll respond quickly to that and give client feedback later. If the client says 'I'm an artist, I'll draw it, you copy it, you're reduced to a draughtsman.' If the client gives guidelines, it's the job of the respondent to give concepts. I'm effectively mentoring you as artists in order to make my client happy. If she knew exactly what she wanted, I'd probably have done it myself |

From 'The Client':
Dear Minus, I understand your frustration, but try to bear in mind that I am not an artist or designer. If I could tell you exactly what I wanted believe me I would, but I think it's natural given my lack of expertise that I am more clear on what I don't want! Whoever wins will do so because they have been able to psyche out what is right for my brand, my market and my taste, and turn that into something that really works. In this case, a feel for the look I'm after and the patience to work with criticism is as important as your artistic skill. Nevertheless, I am open to any new ideas people have - convince me! (visually that is!). I hope no one feels their efforts will be wasted. I have seen really impressive efforts across the board and I hope through competitions like this you will develop skills that will help you get money out of all the other clueless people you may work for in the future Despite not intuiting it right away, Griffin has impressively worked hard to figure out what I want and succeeded, Red Dragon breezed in with a stunner, and MattyK got the feel right very early on and continues to refine it. Red Dragon, I have always liked the simple shape of your leaves and the way they complement the font. Don't change that. The stems help join them to the L, I just think they're now a little too random. Something more stylised and neat will work better for me, possibly even a more abstract form using those shapes. I want the logo to look neat. Griffin, I'm loving your new flowers, exactly what I was hoping you could do. Could I see the second flower shapes in the greener version please? Moesh, Minus, d4rkst0n3, and especially NothingMan, you are all getting better but not challenging the top 3 yet. Babyface, there is no problem with a dragonfly, however I was not convinced by the font and layout. This post has been edited by Discontinuity: Aug 17 2006, 02:49 AM |

Hi John,
I see what she's aiming at, and she does offer valuable feedback in order to get 'the perfect logo'. I'm willing to do one more adjustment, and I will post this later. I liked the subject and had some spare time. Since the logo turned out pretty good imo, I'd like to win it for that matter too! I may suggest that you should judge more on the concept and idea behind the logo. Small details can always be worked out after a winner is picked. That way people wont spend more time on their creation than necessary This post has been edited by RedDragon: Aug 17 2006, 04:16 AM |

I guess I m pretty late stepping into the competition but I still want to keep trying:
Searched for a more appropriate font and adjusted it to colortones you seemed to like. Positioning of the dragonfly can ofcourse be applied to each style.

This new version has more structure in the placement of the leafs. I took the shape of the 'L' into consideration and levelled the leafs accordingly.

thats your best dragonfly one Babyface. that is better - the logo is balanced, the font is good, and the dragonfly improved (less insectly, maybe). I'm going to give the contest another 12 hours then announce the winner as the client is set on what she wants. If you're happy it's you, sit back on your laurels and smile. If you want a last go and you haven't been happy, do it for the practice, and maybe the reward as well. Thankyou! |

This time I made it look as if the insect is pulling the "s" out a bit, don't know if you like it but I thought it to be a nice effect.

Thank you for the helpful feedback, heres the greener versions of the second flower, the text and flower colors can me mixed and matched if you feel 2 go together better than the ones below:
